How to Draw the Invisible Woman

Learn how to draw the Invisible Woman, also known as Susan Storm, a core member of the Fantastic Four and one of Marvel’s earliest female superheroes. She’s known for her ability to turn invisible and project force fields. She is usually shown with a form-fitting blue suit and blonde bob haircut.
When drawing the Invisible Woman, it’s important to sketch the figure with very smooth lines. Her costume includes minimal detailing aside from the “4” symbol on the chest and gloves and boots that contrast in color. The hand gesture in many poses illustrates focus, but you can give your drawing of the Invisible Woman any other pose.
Artists typically begin with a basic figure or skeleton sketch, blocking out the body’s height and stance. The pose is usually upright, with soft facial features and a smooth silhouette. While she doesn’t have visually complex powers like flame or rock textures, the simplicity of her costume puts more focus on the figure and form.
How to Draw the Invisible Woman Step-by-Step
Step 1: Sketch the body guidelines
Start drawing a female figure with a vertical stick person to mark the position of the superhero. Sketch a small head, curved shoulders, an oval for the hips, and line guides for the arms and legs with small circles to mark the joints.

Step 2: Sketch the facial guidelines and define the torso
Let’s start adding volume to the figure. Add the shape of the neck and build the torso with curved lines for the chest and waist. Lightly draw in the face shape and refine the centerline on the head.

Step 3: Outline the Invisible Woman’s arms
Sketch the shoulders with ovals and add both arms with simple shapes. Use cylinders and tapered forms to create the structure of the upper arms and forearms. Use simple angular shapes to sketch the hands.

Step 4: Shape the legs of the superhero
Draw the thighs and lower legs with curves that define the feminine shape. Lightly indicate the feet with angled outlines. Sketch the knees as simple circles. Make the likes very light, to have an opportunity to erase and adjust them later.

Step 5: Draw Sue Storm’s facial features
First, draw the Invisible Woman’s eyes, using the guidelines from the previous steps, then add the nose and mouth. Sketch the eyebrows above the eyes with smooth lines. Shape the jawline, neck, and shoulders.

Step 6: Sketch the Invisible Woman’s haircut
Draw the Invisible Woman’s hairstyle using rounded shapes. Add lines for the hair part and curve the lower edges for the bob cut. Then, sketch the collarbones and the costume line on the shoulders.

Step 7: Shape the torso and Fantastic Four logo
Define the shape of the upper body using smooth lines and draw the “4” symbol at the center of the chest. Then, use smooth lines to finalize the shape of the shoulders.

Step 8: Finalize the arms of the superhero
Refine the arm outlines and fingers, detailing gestures of the character. Use smooth lines to clean up the shapes and give it a finished to your Invisible Woman drawing. Sketch the gloves with a couple of short curves.

Step 9: Detail the legs, sketch the boots and belt
Outline the legs and draw the Invisible Woman’s belt and boot sections of the costume. Keep the lines clean and simple along the body. Use very smooth lines to give the sketch a polished look.

Step 10: Finish the line art
Use a darker pencil or pen to trace the finished outlines of the Invisible Woman drawing. Erase any guidelines or construction marks to complete the line art. Add some details to make your drawing more polished.

Step 11: Complete the Invisible Woman drawing
Use light blue to fill the main parts of the Invisible Woman’s costume and add white or light gray for the gloves, boots, and belt. Color the skin with a natural tone and the hair with a soft blonde.

You’ve now completed the drawing of the Invisible Woman in her classic Fantastic Four outfit. Before finishing, check the outlines and proportions to make sure everything looks authentic and similar to original images of this superhero. You can adjust the hand pose or facial expression to give the drawing more unique look.
