How to Draw a Sloth

If you enjoy drawing animals, this tutorial is a great one to try. Now you will learn how to draw a sloth step by step.
Sloths live in the tropical forests of Central and South America. Their long, curved claws help them grip branches securely, and their plant-based diet allows them to conserve energy by moving slowly.
In this tutorial, you’ll draw a sloth hanging from a tree branch with its curved claws.
Time needed: 1 hour
How to Draw a Sloth
- Draw the tree trunk.
Determine the size and location of your drawing, and draw two parallel lines that run diagonally.
- Depict the main contours of the body.
At the bottom of the trunk, draw two oval figures of different sizes—this will be the head and torso of the animal.
- Sketch out the neck and limbs.
Draw connecting lines between the head and torso. Use thin lines to mark the position of the front and hind legs.
- Add the elements of the muzzle.
This step is very simple and would be quick to complete. Approximately in the middle of the head draw two eyes and a little lower draw the nose.
- Draw the rest of the muzzle.
In each eye, draw a circle to represent the pupil. On the nose, add two dots to represent the nostrils, draw a mouth with a smooth curved line.
- Sketch out the front paws.
Use the guidelines as a guide and add the required thickness to the front legs. Use smooth lines to draw the top edge, and draw the bottom edge with short strokes.
- Depict the back paw.
The principle of drawing the hind paw is the same as the front one. Draw the upper part with smooth lines, and draw the lower part with strokes.
- Add the claws.
On the front paw, draw three large, narrow claws in succession. Draw the visible part of the claw on the back paw. With thin lines, mark the outline where the fur color will differ.
- Check your drawing.
Now you can delete all unnecessary lines, but do it carefully so that you don’t accidentally touch important lines.
- Color the drawing.
In this tutorial, you will need several shades of brown. Add shadows to make the drawing look more realistic.
