How to Draw a Reindeer

Reindeer are large animals that live in northern forests and open tundra. In this tutorial, you will learn how to draw a reindeer step by step.
Reindeer have strong bodies, long legs, and branched antlers. Unlike most other deer species, both males and females can grow antlers. These animals are well adapted to cold climates and often travel in large herds.
Follow the eleven steps to draw a standing reindeer with large antlers.
Time needed: 1 hour
How to Draw a Reindeer
- Add auxiliary lines.
To indicate the location of the body and head of the reindeer, you should draw three ovals using dashed lines.
- Depict markup.
Use lines of different lengths to connect the elements of the torso and head, draw the front of the head, outline the limbs.
- Draw the chest, neck, and belly of the reindeer.
To connect the bottom of the head to the oval representing the location of the chest, add a curved line at the bottom of the torso.
- Draw the outlines of the forelimbs of the reindeer.
Next to the previously drawn straight auxiliary lines indicating the location of the front paws of the reindeer, add curved lines.
- Add the outlines of the reindeer’s hind legs.
Now you should add a few curved lines around the reindeer’s hind legs previously drawn, draw the hooves.
- Sketch out facial features and an ear.
Draw the eye using arcs inside the previously drawn outline of the deer’s head, add the nostril as a dot, the mouth, and the ear as curved lines.
- Mark the reindeer antlers.
Above the reindeer’s head, draw a few curved lines as shown to indicate the location of the reindeer’s antlers.
- Continue drawing the antler.
Near one of the previously drawn curved lines, draw a few more curved lines to depict the antler in relief.
- Add elements of the second reindeer antler.
Now you need to add some curved lines to make the reindeer antler in the background more voluminous.
- Complete the sketch.
Now your drawing is almost ready, and before you start coloring it, you should remove all unnecessary elements.
- Color the drawing.
To color the deer, use shades of brown, black, gray, and beige. Also add the highlight on the eye.
