How to Draw a Poodle
Dogs come in many different breeds, each with its own appearance. This tutorial will show you how to draw a poodle step by step.
The picture shows a cartoon poodle standing in a side view. Follow the steps and draw this recognizable dog breed with its curly coat.

How to Draw a Poodle
- Apply basic markings.
To indicate the location of the head, front, and back of the torso, draw three oval shapes and connect them using two curved lines.
- Mark the location of the tail and limbs.
Draw the lines of the paws using circles of different sizes, as well as straight and slightly curved lines, to designate the tail in the form of an arc.
- Depict the neck, belly and back of the poodle.
Using straight and curved lines, connect the edges of the previously drawn ovals, indicating the location of the head and torso.
- Draw the front of the poodle’s head.
Using straight and curved lines, outline the elongated part of the poodle’s face, as well as the nose and eyes, as shown in the figure.
- Continue drawing the head and add the poodle’s ears.
With the help of thin short dashed lines draw the ears on the sides of the head and neck, and trace the growth of fur on the poodle’s head.
- Add the outlines of the upper parts of the front paws.
On the sides of the previously drawn auxiliary lines indicating the location of the front legs, draw curved lines of different lengths, as shown in the figure.
- Finish drawing the front paws.
Now you need to draw the feet and toes on the front paws of the poodle using curved lines of different lengths as shown in the picture.
- Add the outlines of the upper parts of the hind legs.
On the sides of the auxiliary lines indicating the location and bends of the hind legs, draw curved lines.
- Finish drawing the hind legs.
Now you should draw the feet, toes, and claws on the poodle using curved lines of different lengths.
- Continue drawing the tail, head, and also add fur.
Draw the chin with a curved line, add many short broken curved lines to draw the fluffy tail and fur on the chest, belly, and paws.
- Correct inaccuracies.
Use the eraser to remove unnecessary guidelines from the drawing to prepare it for coloring.
- Color the drawing.
To color the poodle, use different shades of brown as well as black. Don’t forget to add the highlights to the poodle’s eyes and nose.
