How to Draw a Killer Whale
In this drawing tutorial, we will show you how to draw a killer whale – a whale with a rather creepy name.
This whale is very similar in appearance to a dolphin, and the process of drawing a killer whale, in general, is quite similar to the process of drawing a dolphin.
In order to learn how to draw a killer whale, you will need this drawing instruction, pencil, paper, and eraser.
How to Draw a Killer Whale
Step 1 – Sketch out the Outlines of the Killer Whale
Use very light, almost invisible lines to sketch out the body of the killer whale in the form of a large oval. At this stage, the body of the killer whale looks more like a bean.
Step 2 – Draw the Upper Jaw
Using a couple of short lines sketch out the upper jaw. Try to depict the curves of this part of the killer whale’s body as accurately as possible.
Step 3 – Draw the Lower Jaw
Now go to the lower jaw, drawing it following the example of the upper one. The outlines of the upper and lower jaws are mirror images of each other.
Step 4 – Sketch out the Tail
Move to the back of the killer whale’s body and outline the outlines of the tail. The contours of the tail is very similar to the outlines of the elongated letter U.
Step 5 – Draw the Dorsal Fin
Draw a large fin on the back of the killer whale. This fin should have the shape of an elongated and slightly curved pyramid.
Step 6 – Draw the Pectoral Fin
Use a couple of lines to draw the pectoral fin. In the process of drawing a killer whale, constantly check the correctness of the entire drawing by looking at it through a mirror.
Step 7 – Draw the Tail Fin
A very simple step in which you need to draw the tail fin. When drawing the whale’s tail fin, keep in mind that from this point of view we see it from the side.
Step 8 – Draw the Patterns on the Body
Using light lines draw the patterns. All killer whales have approximately the same pattern on their bodies, so try to copy the pattern from our drawing of the killer whale as accurately as possible.
Step 9 – Erase the Guidelines
When erasing the auxiliary lines from your killer whale drawing, try not to touch important and necessary lines. At the end of this step, you can darken the lines.
Step 10 – Color Your Killer Whale Drawing
Use the combination of black and white to color your sketch. By adding shadows, you can make your killer whale drawing more voluminous.
Traditionally, here are some tips on how to make your drawn killer whale even more awesome.
Try drawing different fish, squids, and other sea creatures around your killer whale. This will show that the drawn creature does not fly in the air, but swims in its natural environment.
Or you can draw a killer whale jumping out of the water, just like in Free Willy.
