Doves come in many different colors, including white, gray, black, and silver. There are hundreds of breeds, and the color of their plumage often varies by breed rather than habitat.
By following the steps, you’ll draw a dove in a graceful flying pose.
Time needed: 1 hour
How to Draw a Dove
- Draw the main markup.
To begin with, you need to indicate the location of the head and body of the dove, depicting shapes that look like ovals of different sizes.
- Depict the neck and tail of the dove.
Now you should connect the previously drawn shapes using curved lines, and draw the tail using lines of different lengths.
- Add the outline of the dove’s wing.
On the side of the previously drawn dove’s torso, add the wing using curved lines, as shown.
- Detail the wing.
Draw several straight lines that diverge from the main vertical line.
- Finish drawing the outer outline of the wing.
Depict the outlines of the wings with the help of round beveled lines. The upper sections of the wing should look pointed, and the lower ones should have smooth, rounded contours.
- Add the inner feathers of the wing.
Draw similar outlines of feathers, only much smaller. As you can see, the feathers are arranged in three rows and the largest contours are located distally. These feathers have a different direction from the feathers from the previous step.
- Sketch out the eye and beak of the dove.
Draw an oval-shaped eye inside the outline of the dove’s head previously drawn. Also add the pointed beak.
- Add the plumage on the dove’s tail.
Now you should add straight lines of different lengths and arcs on the bird’s tail as shown in the picture.
- Draw the upper parts of the dove’s paws.
Below the previously drawn dove’s torso, depict some straight and curved lines, as shown in the figure.
- Finish drawing the paws of the dove.
Continue drawing the previously drawn lines using curved lines. Add the pointed claws on the fingers.
- Correct inaccuracies.
Now the dove is ready, and you can remove the guidelines using the eraser.
- Color the dove.
To color the dove, use black, brown, and shades of gray. Don’t forget to add areas of shadow in the drawing, as well as a highlight on the eye.
