How to Draw a Spinosaurus
Earlier we showed you how to draw a Tyrannosaurus and Triceratops, and now we are going to show you how to draw a Spinosaurus – one of the most famous dinosaurs.
Since these animals have become extinct a long time ago, we do not know exactly what they looked like. We know their approximate body structure and even their behavior, but the exact details, such as colors of the body, still remain a mystery to humanity.
Step 1
As in the instruction about Triceratops, the first stage will be devoted to the drawing of the main body parts, such as the head, chest, and pelvis in the form of simple ovals.
Step 2
Now use one long line to connect the head and chest, forming the neck, spine, and tail. In the same stage, mark the location of the front and hind limbs.
Step 3
Now draw the upper jaw with a couple of long, wavy lines. To make sure the body parts are proportional, look at the drawing of a dinosaur through a mirror.
Step 4
Now use two more wavy lines to draw the lower jaw. In the same stage, draw the membrane between the upper and lower jaw.
Step 5
Now draw a small round eye at the top of the head. Further, draw small but razor-sharp teeth inside the mouth. In addition, you can depict the tongue inside the mouth.
Step 6
Connect the head and chest to form the lower edge of the neck. Next, draw a comb on the back using a long, arched line.
Step 7
Using the lines from the second stage, draw the arms and fingers. To check the proportionality of your dinosaur drawing, look at it through a mirror.
Step 8
Connect the ribcage and pelvis from below to form the lower edge of the abdomen. Next, use a long and smooth line to draw the tail.
Step 9
Now, using the lines from the second stage, draw the legs. Note that the legs should be more massive than the arms, almost like a tyrannosaurus.
Step 10
Now finish drawing the legs by depicting feet and toes with sharp claws. You can check the proportionality of your dinosaur drawing by turning it upside down.
Step 11
Draw a wavy line through the bottom of the neck, belly, and tail. Next, draw a series of vertical lines on the dorsal ridge.
Step 12
To give the dinosaur drawing a finished look, erase all unnecessary construction lines and trace all the necessary areas of the artwork with a darker pencil or liner.
Step 13
We decided to paint the spinosaurus in shades of green. As mentioned at the very beginning, we do not know the real coloring of these dinosaurs, and you can choose a different color palette.
Add shadows to make the spinosaurus drawing more voluminous. Be sure to also leave a highlight in the eye to give the dinosaur a liveliness.
