How to Draw a Seagull
The seagull is a very famous bird, and many of our readers wrote to us that they want to see a tutorial on how to draw a seagull on our website.
This bird is called a seagull for a reason because it most often lives near water bodies. But besides this, seagulls often live next to humans and receive considerable benefits from this.
Depending on the habitat and some other factors, gulls come in different colors and builds. And in this instruction, we want to show by tradition the most recognizable type of animal.
Step 1
We begin to draw a seagull by depicting the head in the form of a ball and the torso in the form of an oval. Leave a small space for the neck between your head and torso.
Step 2
Now, using two smooth lines, draw the neck of the seagull. It should expand smoothly closer to the torso. Next, use three straight lines to draw a long tail.
Step 3
Go to the head again to depict the beak of the seagull. The lower line of the beak should look like an arc, and the upper part should look like a curved line that rises almost to the very top of the head.
Step 4
Now draw a line separating the beak from the head. After that, depict a strip separating the upper part of the beak from the lower one. Draw the nostril at the top part on the beak.
Step 5
With long, sweeping lines, draw a wing that extends from the front of the torso to the middle of the tail. Let us remind you that in order to check the proportionality of the picture, you can look at it through a mirror.
Step 6
At the bottom of the body draw the legs. Each leg has two parts. Firstly, you need to depict the upper parts in the form of semicircles, then the lower parts, which looks like long thin sticks.
Step 7
In this stage, we will finish drawing the legs by depicting the feet. Continuing the lines from the previous stage, draw long, jagged toes ending in pointed claws.
Step 8
Now draw the feathers to make the seagull more realistic. Start with longitudinal long lines of feathers. Then draw shorter transverse lines. Don’t forget to draw feathers at the end of the tail.
Step 9
Give the seagull a more finished and beautiful look. To do this, erase all the construction lines we created at the very beginning to simplify the drawing process.
Step 10
The drawing may remain in black and white, but it will look much more convincing if you add colors. Paint the gull’s beak yellow, the body beige, and the legs brown. But don’t forget that seagulls come in a variety of colors, so you can choose the color of the bird at your discretion.
So, ten stages of the instruction on how to draw a seagull are passed, and now you can draw this bird no worse than real illustrators and artists. But don’t rush to throw your pencil to the side. To improve your skill, try drawing a seagull in different conditions and poses. This will help you understand the nuances of portraying this bird more and help hone your skills.
