How to Draw a Donkey
In this drawing guide, we will tell you how to draw a donkey. This is a very cute animal that is often found in different fairy tales, cartoons, and funny stories.
Step 1
Firstly, we sketch out the body of our donkey using three rounded shapes. Place these shapes in the center of your sheet of paper. One of the shapes must be significantly smaller than the other two.
Step 2
Create one smooth line that connects the three rounded shapes from the first step. Using ordinary straight sticks, we mark the front and hind legs.
Step 3
Add two more lines that will connect the three shapes from the first step from the bottom. These should be smooth lines with a slight bend.
Step 4
Great, in this step we will take a closer look at the head of our donkey. Let’s try to draw a long, elongated, rounded shape like in our reference.
Step 5
Add the contours of the facial features. You can see small almond-shaped eye contours, a rounded nostril, and a short mouth line.
Step 6
So in this step, we will draw narrow, long ears. These are two narrow triangles that run almost parallel to the neckline. Because of the foreshortening, we can only see the ear closest to us and a small section of the ear farthest from us.
Step 7
Let’s sketch out the outlines of the mane in this step. This is not a huge lush mane like some horses, but a small section of short hair.
Step 8
Great, now we can focus on the limbs of our horse. So let’s sketch out the outlines of the front legs using graceful, curved lines. These contours have a slight gradual tapering downward.
Step 9
In this step, we add small outlines of the hooves. The underside of the hooves is rounded and slightly convex.
Step 10
The hind legs have more complex contours. Here we see a bend that forms an obtuse angle. The upper part of the horse’s legs is very wide.
Step 11
In this step, we will draw a couple more hooves. The front of the hoof appears to be pointed because the lower edge of the hoof has a convex line.
Step 12
This stаge is necessary so that you can check the actions from the previous steps. If you notice any problems, fix them now. After that, you can remove the extra guidelines and move on to working with colors in the final step.
Step 12
In this step, we will be working with colors. We decided to use classic and familiar colors. Prepare a darker shade of your base color for lighter shadows. Don’t forget the white highlight inside this donkey’s eye. This will make your drawing look more realistic.
