In this tutorial, we will show you how to draw a crocodile. This dangerous reptile appeared so long ago that giant lizards still roamed our prehistoric land. You don’t have to go to tropical countries or the Nile Valley to see this prehistoric creature. It is enough to start this tutorial on how to draw a crocodile and create this creature right on paper.
How to Draw a Crocodile
Step 1 – Sketch the Basics
Draw three circles horizontally. Place two circles close to each other, and the third one farther away. The crocodile is a reptile, which means that its main type of movement is crawling on the ground.
Step 2 – Sketch out the Outlines of the Body and Tail
Draw a line from above, starting from the first circle, which will then turn into the head. Go through the second circle, envelop the third and finish with the outline of the tail. Next, sketch the limbs – for this, draw two lines from the central circle, one of which is straight, and the second is bent at the elbow joint.
Step 3 – Draw the Upper Jaw of the Crocodile
Next, sketch out the top of the crocodile’s mouth, drawing a curved line in the upper front of the head circle. This and subsequent steps should be done using darker and clearer lines.
Step 4 – Draw the Lower Jaw of the Crocodile
From the upper corner of the mouth, draw an arcuate, winding line, make a slight rounding and finish the inner part, practically touching the line of the circle. Next, bring to the end the zygomatic part of the jaw.
Step 5 – Draw the Teeth and Eye of the Crocodile
The teeth should look like zigzag lines. Each tooth is replaced approximately once every 1-2 years, if people had such a bonus, there would be no need for the profession of an implant surgeon. After that, draw the crocodile’s eye with a pair of curved lines.
Step 6 – Draw the Front Legs
Draw the outlines of the crocodile’s front legs with a couple of simple lines. If you paid attention, then the front legs of a crocodile are somewhat reminiscent of human arms. So the process of drawing crocodile front legs and human arms is somewhat similar.
Step 7 – Draw the Toes on the Front Feet
From this point of view, we see only four toes on the front legs. To draw them, use fairly short and slightly curved lines.
Step 8 – Dra the Hind Leg
Now go to the hind limbs of the crocodile. Draw the outlines of the hind leg following the example of how you drew the forelimb.
Step 9 – Draw the Toes of the Hind Leg
Let’s start drawing the toes on the hind legs, in our case, one visible limb. Also, remember about the sharp claws of the reptile.
Step 10 – Draw the Texture on the Back
One of the distinguishing features of the crocodile is the horny scales on its back, which serve as a kind of armor. To draw it, use a series of short, curved lines as in our example.
Step 11 – Erase the Guidelines
Now leave the pencil, and resort to the help of an eraser, carefully erasing all the auxiliary lines from the crocodile drawing. Try not to touch the important lines of the drawing.
Step 12 – Color the Crocodile Drawing
Let’s paint the crocodile green, make the belly a little lighter, the inner part of the mouth maroon, and the eyes charcoal black. In nature, there are bright colors, but mostly crocodiles are green-marsh colors.
So we’re done! We hope you enjoyed our crocodile drawing tutorial. We allowed ourselves a small excursion into zoology and talked about what kind of crocodiles are found in real nature.
Do you have a favorite animal? Maybe it will be a reptile too (for example, an alligator or lizard)? Let’s do this – you will tell in the comments about your favorite animal from the wild, indicate its three main features, and we will try to select the best commentary, and draw this animal!
