How to Draw a Buffalo

In this tutorial, we will show you how to draw a buffalo. It is a large ruminant of the bull genus. The buffalo has a large head, a thick short neck, and short legs. This animal has a fierce disposition and can be as dangerous as some predators. Buffaloes live in the wild in Asia, Africa, and Australia, they are also bred in agriculture. In appearance, these large animals seem clumsy and unhurried, although they can run at great speed, although their strength will not be enough for long distances. So let’s start a guide on how to draw a buffalo.

 

How to Draw a Buffalo

Step 1 – Start Draw the Silhouette of the Buffalo

First, draw three rounded shapes of different sizes. As you can see, the shapes on the right are connected. The middle figure is the largest and most elongated of all. If this figure was located at the bottom, it would look like a snowman.

Step 2 – Drawing the Baselines

Draw a smooth line that connects the top edges of all three shapes. After that, draw short lines that will help us draw the legs of our animal. Use the lightest and smoothest strokes possible in this step.

Step 3 – Outline the Facial Features of the Buffalo

So this buffalo silhouette looks pretty good, doesn’t it? That is why you can work with individual details. So, sketch out the outlines of a small eye and a large, rounded nose. Note that the eye is located at the bottom of the buffalo’s head.

Step 4 – Draw the Chin of the Buffalo

So, we continue the guide on how to draw a buffalo. If you’ve ever seen a real live buffalo, you might have noticed this guy’s big, powerful chin. Draw just such a chin, which goes into a smooth curve and then into the lower line of the body of our buffalo.

Step 5 – Draw the Buffalo’s Horns

Horns are an invariable attribute of any buffalo. Draw short, curved horns that look like commas. Also, draw the outlines of the wavy fur on the top of this lovely buffalo’s head. It looks like a little winter hat, in fact. Pay attention to the distance from the hair and horn to the eye.

Step 6 – Draw the Outlines of the Front Legs

Use smooth, wavy lines. The contours of the paws should have a smooth but noticeable taper towards the hooves. The tops of the legs should look especially wide.

Step 7 – Draw the Front Hooves of the Buffalo

This will be a very small step. Draw small, rounded hooves. Note the noticeable curves of the distal legs in front of the hooves. The hoof is like a small iron.

Step 8 – Draw the Tail and Body of the Buffalo

So, we are close to completing the guide on how to draw a buffalo. Draw the tail and lower torso of this large animal. Avoid drawing a tail that is too large. As you can see, it is a small tail with a fluffy tassel at the distal end.

Step 9 – Drawing the Hind Legs of the Buffalo

Draw the outlines of the hind legs of this lovely buffalo. Note the very wide proximal parts and the sharp, noticeable curve. The space between the two legs looks like an acute angle.

Step 10 – Draw the Buffalo’s Hind Hooves

And we are approaching the final step of the drawing guide on how to draw a buffalo. Draw the hooves on the hind legs to create the complete silhouette of the buffalo. The hind hooves appear more elongated and thinner than the front hooves due to the peculiarity of the foreshortening.

Step 11 – Remove Extra Lines

Set aside the pencil and take an eraser. Carefully erase all the guidelines drawn in the first steps. To make your buffalo drawing more expressive, outline it with a dark pencil or liner.

Step 12 – Color the Buffalo Drawing

In this step, we will be working with colors. We decided to use classic and familiar colors. Prepare a darker shade of your base color for lighter shadows. Don’t forget the white highlight inside this buffalo’s eye. This will make your drawing look more realistic.
