How to Draw a Ballerina
- Prepare baselines.
Determine the size and relative position of the main parts of the body. To do this, determine the central axis, depict the head, thoracic region and pelvic region in the form of rounded figures.
- Determine the position of the limbs.
Use thin, straight lines to indicate the position of the arms and legs. Sketch out the folds as large dots.
- Begin to give the body the desired shape.
Draw smooth connecting lines between the head and the thoracic region, and depict the back and front of the torso.
- Outline the arms.
Focus on the auxiliary lines and draw individual parts of the arms in the form of cylindrical figures. Add the places of the folds in the form of ovals and add the contours of the hands.
- Depict the outline of the lower body.
Add the skirt using smooth wavy lines. Give the legs thickness and proper shape. Draw the knee joints and ballet shoes.
- Detail the head.
In this step you will add the elements of the head. Carefully add the eyes, eyebrows, nose, and mouth. Draw the ears, mark the contour of the face and the contour of the hair. Depict the outline of the neck.
- Make the contours of the hands more clear.
Focus on the guidelines and carefully outline both hands along the contour using clear lines.

Use smooth lines and outline the clothes on the back, armpits, chest, and belly.
- Make the outline of the legs and clothes more clear.
This step is similar to the previous one, and now you have to carefully outline the skirt, lower and upper parts of the legs, focusing on the lines that you drew earlier.
- Draw the pointe shoes.
In this step you have to make the outline of the shoes more clear. Be careful and try not to go beyond the lines.
- Detail the clothes and hair.
Depict the folds on the clothes using thin lines of different lengths. Draw the relief folds on the back and detail the hair.
- Correct inaccuracies.
Now all the main outlines are ready, and you can remove the auxiliary lines with the help of the eraser.
- Color the drawing.
For coloring the skin and hair, use natural shades. You can paint the stage costume in any bright color. The pointe shoes color light brown.
