Steve Rogers is one of the most iconic comic book characters, and in this tutorial we will show you how to draw Captain America’s head.

This lesson continues a series of lessons in which we show how to draw comic book character heads. Previously, we learned how to draw Spider-Man and Wolverine heads. This lesson will help you consolidate the knowledge you have gained.

Captain America has such distinctive features as a powerful, massive jaw, as well as characteristic wings on the top of his head and the letter A in the center of his forehead. In addition, Captain America’s mask has distinctive colors.

How to Draw Captain America’s Head

Step 1: Shape Captain America’s Head

Sketch an oval shape to form the base for Captain America’s head. Slightly narrow it at the bottom to define the jawline. This shape should look like an egg.

Step 2: Sketch the Facial Guidelines

Draw a vertical line down the center of Captain America’s face and a horizontal line at the middle to guide the placement of facial features.

Step 3: Draw Captain America’s Eyes Outlines

Sketch almond-shaped outlines for the eyes along the horizontal guideline. Make the eyes symmetrical. Add some folds, to make the eyes of Captain America look detailed.

Step 4: Add the Irises and Pupils

Draw the irises within the eye shapes and add small circles for the pupils. The upper parts of the irises should be slightly covered by the upper eyelids.

Step 5: Draw the Nose of Steven Rogers

Add the nose below the horizontal guideline by sketching the bridge and nostrils using simple curved lines. Try to make the nose look symmetrical and smooth.

Step 6: Sketch the Mouth of Captain America

Draw the mouth by adding a gently curved line. Then, draw the outline of the lower lip. To make the mouth look more realistic, draw the folds as in our example.

Step 7: Outline the Chin and Cheekbones

Shape the chin by refining the bottom of the head. Give it angular and powerful appearance. At the sides of the face, draw the cheekbones with curved lines.

Step 8: Sketch the Ears of Steve Rogers

Sketch the ears on both sides of the head, positioning them between the eye and nose lines. To give your drawing of Captain America’s face more realistic look, draw the inner details of the ears.

Step 9: Draw Captain America’s Mask Openings

Outline the mask’s eye openings and the areas covering the nose and mouth to give the drawing it’s iconic design. The lines of the openings should follow the shape of the Captain America’s face.

Step 10: Add the Wings at the Top of the Head

Add small wing-like details on each side of the head to represent Captain America’s helmet wings. First, draw the outlines of the wings. Then add feather texture.

Step 11: Draw the Letter A at the Forehead

Draw the large “A” centered on the forehead. To draw the letter, first sketch the outlines of the letter, then depict the inner shapes. Try to make the letter symmetrical.

Step 12: Erase the Guidelines From the Head

Remove all unnecessary guidelines to clean up the drawing of Captain America’s head and trace the essential details. You can use a darker pencil or a liner.

Step 13: Color Captain America’s Head

Color the mask blue, the “A” and wings white, and the face with natural skin tones. Color the eyes of Steve Rogers blow. Add shading and highlights to give the drawing some realism.
