How to Draw a Sitting Person

The picture shows a person sitting on the ground with one knee raised and the other leg extended forward. By following the steps, you’ll recreate this relaxed seated pose.

How to Draw a Sitting Person
- Apply basic markings.
To indicate the location of the head and torso of the sitting person, draw curved auxiliary lines and figures in the form of an oval.
- Mark the location of the limbs and lines of symmetry on the face.
To indicate the location of the arms and legs, use circles and straight lines of different lengths, also add two straight lines near the oval indicating the location of the head.
- Depict the sides, neck, and shoulders.
On the right and left sides of the previously drawn ovals representing the torso, add curved lines of different lengths, draw a line between the head and torso, and two lines below the neck.
- Sketch out the outlines of the chair.
To draw the chair on which the person is sitting, use straight and curved lines of different lengths, as shown in the figure.
- Draw the hands of the sitting person.
Now you should use straight and curved lines, as well as circles of different sizes, to draw the arms bent at the elbows.
- Add the outlines of the legs.
Draw bent legs slightly apart using circles, as well as straight, curved lines of varying lengths.
- Outline the face.
Below the previously drawn oval indicating the location of the head, draw a curved line to draw the chin and cheeks.
- Add facial features and ears.
On the sides of the sitting person’s head draw the symmetrical ears, add the eyes, eyebrows, nose, and the mouth using curved lines.
- Depict the hairstyle of the sitting person.
At the top of the head, draw broken straight and curved lines of various lengths to draw short hair.
- Continue drawing the chair.
Draw in more detail the legs of the chair, and also add the wheels at the bottom of them, using straight lines, ovals, and arcs.
- Start drawing the costume.
Draw the shirt and tie and indicate the folds on them using many broken curved lines of different lengths, as shown in the figure.
- Add the outlines of the pants and shoes.
Next to the previously drawn outlines of the legs of the sitting person, add curved lines of different lengths, and also mark the pleats on the trousers.
- Remove extra lines from the drawing.
To prepare the drawing for coloring, use the eraser and remove all unnecessary auxiliary lines.
- Color the drawing.
Color the skin of the sitting person in any color, and use shades of gray, purple, black, brown, and shades of orange.
