Today i will show how to draw manga. As you know, manga is the name of Japanese comics that have gained popularity around the world. So, this tutorial will be interesting not only for manga fans but also for any novice artist because it shows in detail how to draw a human figure. The skills you learn in this tutorial will definitely come in useful to you in the future.
All the manga characters have common traits, and now you’re going to portray them in your drawing. As an example, we have chosen the image of a young man. Here you see a tall, slender young man wearing a jacket, pants, and boots. Before you draw the man’s body figure, you need to determine the proportions. Also, be careful and try to remove all the body parts correctly.

How to Draw Manga
- Draw the base of the drawing.
Firstly, depict a vertical line to indicate the spine and add ovals to represent the head, chest, and pelvis.
- Picture the position of the arms and legs.
Secondly, draw thin straight lines and large dots, as shown in the example.
- Add the face, neck, and upper torso.
Thirdly, draw two straight lines, and add smooth lines to represent the neck, shoulders, and torso.
- Draw the hands.
Then, add circles in the shoulder area. After that, draw the rest of the arms with flowing lines.
- Draw the legs.
Depict the thickness of the legs as cylinders. Draw the knees as two circles, and add the feet.
- Add facial features.
So, let’s draw the face. Use short, clear strokes to draw eyes, eyebrows, nose, and mouth.
- Draw the hair.
The manga character has lush hair. So, use short strokes of different sizes to get the hair like in the image.
- Outline the facial oval and neck.
The character has a narrow face and a pointed chin. Use straight lines to draw the neck.
- Draw the collar on the garment.
Using straight lines, draw a wide collar on the garment and add shoulders.
- Add the jacket.
Draw straight lines on the sides, mark the center part of the jacket, and add pockets.
- Draw the sleeves.
Use curved lines to draw the sleeves. At the bottom of the sleeves, add wide cuffs.
- Depict the bottom parts of the hands.
Draw a vertical line and add an outline of the thumb. One hand is partially covered by the torso.
- Draw the pants.
Add the top of the pants with straight lines. Use jagged lines to draw the bottom of the pants.
- Draw the boots.
The character has narrow, tall boots. So, use straight and rounded lines to draw the shoes.
- Correct inaccuracies.
The drawing of the character is almost done. Remove unnecessary lines and make the sketch clearer.
- Color the manga.
Use any natural shade to color the skin. Also, use dark gray, blue, or any other colors according your fantasy.
