How to Draw Hulk’s Head

Continuing to expand the theme of drawing comic books and legendary characters, we’re excited to present this tutorial on how to draw Hulk’s head.
Comic book drawing is a whole separate world with its own rules and directions. While drawing comic book characters is based on the fundamentals of human figure drawing, it features a wide range of distinctive stylistic choices that set this style apart from others.
We’ve already drawn Hulk before using the classic comic book drawing style. Today, we’ll learn how to draw Hulk’s head using all the techniques we’ve practiced in previous comic drawing lessons.
How to Draw Hulk’s Head Step-by-Step
Step 1: Sketch Hulk’s head outline
Draw Hulk’s head outline as an oval. This figure can vary in size and shape, depending on what Hulk you want to draw. You can make it wider or narrower, but make sure to maintain accuracy and symmetry.

Step 2: Add the facial guidelines
Draw a vertical facial guideline to indicate the center of the face and a horizontal guideline for the eyes. Adjust the location and curvature of the lines depending on the head turn you want to achieve.

Step 3: Draw Hulk’s eyebrows
Using the guidelines from the previous step, draw thick eyebrows on Hulk’s head. The eyebrows should be thicker at the middle and narrower as the sides. Adjust the angle depending on the desirable facial expression.

Step 4: Add the eyes to Hulk’s head
Just below the eyebrows, draw the eyes as two almond shaped figures. The eyes should be partially covered by the eyebrows in the bridge of the nose area for a more and angry serious look.

Step 5: Add the eye details
First, draw the pupils inside the as with the help of two semicircles. The, draw folds below the eyes. These folds are formed by the eyeballs and eye sockets.

Step 6: Sketch the wrinkled nose
First, draw the nose tip with a curved line. The, draw the folds of skin on the bridge. These folds are formed by muscles of the nose and help to rise the wings of the nose. Make these folds symmetrical on both sides.

Step 7: Sketch the mouth of Bruce Banner
With a couple of curved lines, indicate the nasolabial folds at the sides of the nose. Then, draw the mouth of Hulk with a long curved line. Indicate the lower lip and philtrum for a more realistic look.

Step 8: Draw the ears at the sides
To draw the ears of the Incredible Hulk, use a couple of curved lines, located at the nose level. Then, draw the folds inside the ears to indicate cartilage. Hulk typically has very small ears, compared to the rest of the head.

Step 9: Refine Hulk’s jawline
Hulk has a really large and strong jawline, so draw wit using long angular lines. The jaw and chin should be very wide and pronounced, but you can adjust it according to the desired look of the character.

Step 10: Start drawing Hulk’s hair
Hulk’s hairstyle is very different depending on age and comic book or movie. But anyway, start drawing the hair with the bangs, sketching it with the help of jagged lines, framing the top of the face.

Step 11: Refine the hair outline
Usually, Hulk has very messy and fluffy hair, so draw the top part using jagged lines of different shape and direction. The strands should vary in size and direction, to make the Hulk head drawing look more authentic.

Step 12: Erase the guidelines
In comic books, artists usually use fineliners or brush pens to trace pencil sketches, but you can use a pen or maker, or even a darker pencil. Anyway, don’t forget to erase the guidelines and make final adjustments.

Step 13: Add colors to Hulk’s head
Color the face in light or medium green, depending on the style you want to convey in your drawing. Use a darker green for the hair and eyebrows. Color the eyes a lighter green with white highlights.

Since Hulk has gone through many iterations and variations throughout the character’s history, you’re free to draw him a bit differently by using another reference. For example, in the earliest comics, Hulk was gray, so you can use gray tones to color your version of the character.
In the 1970s TV series, Hulk had long hair and more realistic human proportions, as he was portrayed by the real-life actor and bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno – so you might want to draw Hulk’s head with features resembling that iconic version.
Or you can make your Hulk look closer to the one seen in the more recent Marvel movies. Also, as you may have noticed, we didn’t use strong comic book shadows or high contrast in this example, but you can apply that style if you want to give your drawing a more classic comic book look.
