How to Draw a Lion
Today we continue the theme of drawing animals. Therefore, we created a lesson on how to draw a lion.
Step 1
Firstly we will form the approximate body contours of our lion. We will form the trunk and head with the help of large rounded figures and sticks. The largest figure is the chest. Note that the chest and pelvis should be very close together.
Step 2
Now we outline the contours of the front and lower jaws that look like an oval overlapping half of the head. After that, we depict the contours of the eyes and add a powerful wide neck.
Step 3
In this step we will work on the contours of the mane. This is a long, round, jagged figure that hangs lower than the contours of the chest.
Step 4
We depict the front paws. In general, a lion is a very muscular and powerful animal. The body of the lion should also be large and powerful, as well as the legs. Therefore, in this step, we will draw wide strong legs with a slight narrowing in the middle.
Step 5
We will repeat the same actions only with the hind legs of our lion. Pay attention to the bend at an obtuse angle which makes these legs more elegant.
Step 6
So, the last part of the body remains. In this step, we need to outline the contours of the tail. It looks like a small line with a brush on the end.
Step 7
Our lion has an approximate outline of the body. Now we will add the final details to get the finished drawing. Now we will add some lines to form a muzzle. Draw a nose that looks like an inverted triangle and a mouth in the form of ” Y” inverted letter.
Step 8
So we continue the drawing guide on how to draw a lion. Add the lion’s mane to the wool texture. To do this, we fringe the mane with some oblique strokes. Also, add the contours of the rounded ears.
Step 9
We evaluate the correct proportion and accuracy of forms. We check every part of the body of our lion. If you do not see any inaccuracies you can start working with colors.
Step 10
The traditional colors for the lion are yellow and brown. Try to use only dark shades of these colors. Avoid bright poisonous shades because it harms realism.
Most recently, we showed you how to draw an elephant. You can look into this lesson if you want to draw other exotic animals.
