How to Draw a Jaguar
Learn how to draw a jaguar in just a few easy steps. This simple guide will help you create one of the largest and most recognizable wild cats.
The jaguar is a powerful member of the cat family. These big cats are known for their graceful appearance and distinctive coat with black spots and rosettes on a light golden background. Each jaguar has a unique pattern, much like a human fingerprint.
You’ll spend some time adding the jaguar’s distinctive markings, but the result is worth the effort.

How to Draw a Jaguar
- Draw the head and torso.
Use thin lines to draw three circles of different sizes. Keep proportions and try to correctly position the circles on paper.
- Depict the back and limbs.
At the top, draw a curved line that connects the circles and smoothly turns into the long tail. Use thin lines to mark the position of the paws.
- Sketch out the belly and tail.
Consistently connect all the circles with one curved line, so you will depict the lower contour of the torso. Depict another curved line to completely draw the jaguar’s tail.
- Add the front part of the face.
At this stage, you have to refine the shape of the head. Add two rounded lines at the front of the head. Then draw two small eyes.
- Detail the front of the face.
Smooth lines add the lower jaw. Try to correctly depict the open mouth and add small, sharp teeth. Draw the nose in the shape of a triangle.
- Depict the ears and add the pupils.
The jaguar has a wide forehead and small, rounded ears. Use curved lines to depict the ears on each side. Draw large dots in each eye to represent the pupils.
- Draw the front paws.
Make the forelimbs voluminous. The upper part of the forelimbs is wide, and the lower part is narrow. Try to correctly depict the position of the paws.
- Sketch out the feet on the front paws.
With the help of smooth rounded lines, draw the feet and add the toes on each paw. One foot is completely on the ground, the other foot is bent.
- Add the hind paws.
Depict the hind legs in the same way as the front ones, that is, the upper part is wide, and the lower part is narrow. One paw is straight, and the other is bent at the joint.
- Depict the feet on the hind paws.
Use curved lines to represent the feet on each hind leg. Detail the feet and draw three fingers on each paw.
- Start painting spots.
Start detailing the color on the head and front of the torso. Note that the spots on the front of the head are very small and gradually increase in size towards the tail.
- Depict the rest of the spots.
Add spots on the rest of the body. Depict the largest spots on the middle part of the body and on the tail. On the lower parts of the paws, the spots are small.
- Remove the guidelines.
The main outlines are drawn, and it’s time to check your work. Correct inaccuracies if necessary, and delete all auxiliary lines.
- Color the jaguar.
Use beige as a background. Color some areas of the body with a darker shade to depict shadows. Thus, the jaguar will look more realistic.
