How to Draw a Grizzly
In this simple step-by-step drawing tutorial we will tell you about how to draw a Grizzly. This is a very large animal, which is a national symbol in many cultures. Grizzly is also a very popular character in cartoons and comics.
How to Draw a Grizzly
Step 1 – Create the base
Firstly, draw three circles. It looks a bit like a snowman in a horizontal position. Pay attention to the location of the first and middle circles.
Step 2 – Depict the Facial Features
Secondly, draw the basic outlines of the eyes and nose. The eye and nose farthest from us are formed by one line with several pronounced bends.
Step 3 – Draw the Contours of the Ears
Add the outlines of the ears and nose. Due to the peculiarities of the angle, the inner parts of the ears have different contours.
Step 4 – Depict the contours of the front paws
Draw large, powerful front paws. You can first draw the outlines with regular smooth lines and then add short strokes like in this illustration. Again you can see the distortion due to the angle – the right paw seems to be wider and larger than the left one.
Step 5 -Add the Paw Toes
Draw fingers and claws. Add lines of paw pads in the form of wide angles. You can see short, rounded fingers and claws in small triangles. Try to keep proportions and sizes.
Step 6 – Draw the Back and Abdomen
Let’s add some volume. Connect the circles from the first step using two smooth lines at the top and bottom. Draw the contours of a wide neck with lines from the nose to the ears.
Step 7 – Draw the Contours of the Hind Leg
Draw the outlines of the large hind paw. This is a powerful wide figure that has a slight narrowing downwards. So, use the back circle of the torso as your main reference.
Step 8 – Add the Hind Toes
Add claws and toes on the back paw. The bottom of the second leg is covered by the front leg, so we can’t see it. Just draw the contours in the form of a horizontal line as in the sample.
Step 9 – Delete the Extra Lines
Take a close look at your drawing. Try to find all possible errors in lines and proportions. Find the step where you made a mistake and correct it with an eraser.
Step 10 – Color It
The traditional color for grizzlies is brown, contrary to the name. You can choose any color, really, but we preferred to stick to realism. Don’t forget to use a darker shade for the shadows.
So, we have completed this guide. Try drawing some more bears using these easy steps. Do not forget to write in the comments about how well you drew this beautiful animal. We are looking forward to your feedback!
