How to Draw a Grasshopper
- Prepare the base.
Draw the main parts of the grasshopper’s body using round shapes. Do not forget that at the initial stage you need to use only thin lines.
- Sketch out the limbs.
Use a few lines to define the position of the grasshopper’s legs. At the same time, be careful and observe all proportions.
- Detail the head.
Trace the head along the contour, giving it the desired shape. Draw the oval eye, add the thin antennae and draw the bottom of the head where the mouth is located.
- Add the next body element.
In this step you have to depict the grasshopper’s chest. Draw a few lines from the head and depict the chest of the same shape as in our example.
- Draw the wing.
Depict smooth lines from the chest and depict the thin, elongated wing. Add some folds on the wing.
- Depict the lower part of the body.
Now you will draw the lower part of the thoracic region and add the belly, the surface of which consists of several small segments.
- Sketch out the front paws.
Use the guidelines as a guide and draw four paws, which consist of separate parts of different shapes.
- Draw the hind legs.
In this step depict the long hind legs that are bent in the middle. Be careful and try to correctly depict the shape of the paws.
- Add the rest of the elements.
This will be a very simple step in which you will need to depict small spikes on the paws. Draw a short, thin line on the front of the muzzle.
- Correct inaccuracies.
Compare the drawing with our example and if you notice any mistakes, correct them right away. Remove the guidelines.
- Color the drawing.
To color the grasshopper, you will need different shades of green and brown. Add the shadows and highlights to make your drawing look more realistic.
