How to Draw a Fish
In this drawing tutorial, we will show you how to draw a fish. As always, we tried to make the lesson as simple and clear as possible.
Fish come in a variety of colors and sizes. They live in almost every body of water. Most people love these creatures and they keep them in their aquariums at home. Today we this tutorial on how to draw a fish with a pencil step by step.
The work is very easy, so even the smallest children can handle it. Of course, not without the help of parents.
Before starting the creative process, prepare pencils, felt-tip pens, erasers, and paper.
How to Draw a Fish
Step 1 – Sketch the Basic Shape of the Fish
To draw a fish correctly and accurately, you first need to sketch out the basic shape. For this purpose, use a horizontally elongated oval.
Step 2 – Draw the Shape of the Tail Fin
Draw the outlines of the tail using a pair of long and smooth lines. Note that the top and bottom edges of the tail are mirror images of each other.
Step 3 – Draw the Details of the Tail Fin
Using a long, wavy line depict the edge of the tail fin. Next, draw a line visually separating the tail from the rest of the body.
Step 4 – Draw the Dorsal Fin of the Fish
Firstly, draw the diagonal line closest to the head. Next, draw the top edge of the dorsal fin using a long zigzag line.
Step 5 – Draw the Pectoral Fins of the Fish
The pectoral fins are noticeably smaller than the dorsal and caudal fins. They are not difficult to draw, just try to repeat the outlines presented in our example.
Step 6 – Draw the Eye, Mouth, and Gill
Firstly, draw the round eye. Then, use a simple short line to mark the mouth. Finish the stage by drawing the gill of the fish with a long, curved line.
Step 7 – Detail the Dorsal and Pectoral Fins of the Fish
The fins of the fish are membranes supported by thin and long bones. These bones form the characteristic fin texture. To create it, use long lines as shown in our example.
Step 8 – Detail the Tail Fin of the Fish
The tail fin texture is drawn in the same way as the texture of the rest of the fins. Note that the lines on the tail should diverge towards the end.
Step 9 – Draw the Scales of the Fish
The fish scales are a large number of short C-shaped lines. When creating the texture of the scales, try to ensure that all the lines are at an equal distance from each other.
Step 10 – Erase the Guidelines
Now, get rid of all the construction lines we drew at the very beginning. Try not to touch on important lines. You can trace your fish drawing to make it more expressive.
Step 10 – Color the Fish Drawing
Fish come in a wide variety of colors, which means you can color your fish any color you like. We decided to choose a gold color, as it is quite typical for many fish.
So, the fish drawing tutorial is completed, and you just have to hang it on the wall or add some additional details. You can decorate the background in blue, add algae and pebbles.
A child can easily cope with this work, the main thing is to follow our instructions.
The purpose of this lesson: to form the ability to portray images large, on the entire plane of the sheet, to maintain proportionality between the parts of the image; evenly and accurately paint over parts of the drawing with pencils, crayons, or felt-tip pens; supplement the image with details.
