How to Draw a Dancer

During this lesson, try to observe all proportions and take into account the anatomical features of the body structure.

How to Draw a Dancer
- Draw baselines.
Determine the position of the main parts of the body using oval shapes. At this stage, use only thin lines, which can be easily removed later.
- Add the limbs.
Use thin straight lines to define the position of the limbs. Mark the places of the folds in the form of large dots.
- Depict the markup on the face and add the contours of the body.
On the head, draw a smooth line that will help to correctly place facial features. Draw connecting lines to draw the neck, back, and belly.
- Sketch out the hands.
Give the hands thickness, to do this, depict the individual parts of the hands in the form of cylindrical figures. Draw the places of the folds in the form of circles and add the hands.
- Draw the legs.
Depict the legs according to the same principle as the arms, while taking into account all the anatomical features. Draw the knee joints in the form of circles and draw the feet below.
- Detail the head.
Draw an oval for the face and add the ear on the side. Depict the eyes eyebrows, nose, and mouth. With the help of smooth curved lines draw the hair on the head.
- Outline the upper body.
Use the lines you drew in the previous steps as a guide and outline the belly, back, and arms. Draw the outline of the clothes.
- Depict the hands.
In this step, you will need to be careful and accurate, because you must correctly depict the position of the fingers. Take your time and consistently draw all the contours.
- Add the lower part of the body.
Draw the bottom of the clothes, use straight lines for this. Depict the lower contour of the skirt using an uneven wavy line. Carefully circle the legs along the contour.
- Draw the feet.
With the help of smooth curved lines draw pointe shoes on the ballerina’s legs. Pay attention to the position of the feet and try to depict them correctly.
- Add the folds to the clothes and detail the hair.
With the help of short thin lines depict small folds in the waist area. Also add thin lines on the hair to represent the individual strands.
- Correct inaccuracies.
Compare the drawing with our example and if you notice any mistakes, you can correct them right away. Remove guidelines.
- Color the drawing.
For coloring skin and hair, use any natural shades. Color the clothes and shoes in beige. Highlight the dark areas to make the drawing look more realistic.
