How to Draw a Bank

This tutorial focuses on drawing an architectural structure, where you’ll learn how to draw a bank. The drawing depicts a two-story building with columns.

You’ll use only straight lines and simple geometric shapes. Take your time and maintain symmetry.

Step 1: Outline the bank building

Choose the size of the bank drawing and sketch a large rectangle for the main facade. Add a triangular roof above it, then draw a wide trapezoid along the bottom for the base of the building.

Step 2: Draw the column capitals

Draw a horizontal line across the upper section of the bank facade. Below it, add six narrow rectangular capitals that will mark the upper ends of the classical columns.

Step 3: Draw the bank columns

Extend two straight vertical lines downward from each capital to form six long columns. Try to make their widths similar so the front of the bank look more symmetrical.

Step 4: Sketch the column bases

Add a straight horizontal line beneath the columns. At the lower end of each column, draw a short rectangular base that connects the supports to the foundation.

Step 5: Sketch the front steps

Below the column bases, draw several long horizontal strips that gradually widen toward the bottom. These shapes form the entrance steps of the bank building.

Step 6: Add the upper facade molding

Draw several long, narrow bands above the columns of the bank to form the upper molding. Make the highest band extend beyond the lower sections on both sides of the facade.

Step 7: Refine the triangular roof

Trace the outer triangular roof with darker lines, then add a second large triangle inside it. This creates the framed pediment – a common detail from traditional bank architecture.

Step 8: Draw the upper bank windows

Use straight lines to draw four rectangular windows across the second floor. Place two windows on each side of the central entrance.

Step 9: Add the lower floor windows

Draw four more rectangular windows on the first floor, placing them below the upper windows. Leave the middle area open for the main doorway of the bank.

Step 10: Sketch the bank entrance

Draw a large rectangular double door in the center of the bank facade. Add inset rectangular panels to both doors, then outline a narrow canopy directly above the entrance.

Step 11: Draw the bank sign

Inside the triangular pediment, draw the large word “BANK” in simple block letters. Center the inscription within the available space and keep the letters similar in height.

Step 12: Clean up the bank drawing

Erase the remaining construction lines from the facade, roof, columns, and steps. Refine any uneven contours and darken the main architectural outlines before coloring.

Step 13: Color the bank building

Color the entrance doors brown and fill the windows with blue. Use light and dark gray shades for the walls, columns, roof, steps, and other architectural details.
